"Rose of the Alchemist"
by L. E. Frost
A naive young alchemist must battle an evil sorcerer who holds the allure of the nocturnal angel and promises him all he has ever desired.
Xavier is working toward his magnum opus, the great alchemical transmutation that changes lead into gold and proves his skill as Master Alchemist. He is confident he will have plenty of time to pursue his studies after the Harvest Festival, but a strange twist of fate shatters his world.
On the eve before Festival, Xavier is approached by the mysterious figure of a Bembine seer in his dormitory garden. The seer brings prophesy that is life changing. A dark sorcerer, whose beauty is like the nocturnal angel, will seek out the young alchemist because of his rare gift. Xavier can look inside a person or object, find an innate quality or a dormant seed of that quality and cause the seed to grow until it transforms them. He will soon be immersed in a battle for his soul as the temptation the sorcerer will offer him will be all he has ever desired.
Two invaluable allies in Xavier’s upcoming struggle are Jophiel, the intelligent Seraph falcon, his devoted guardian and occasional “mother hen”, and Meri, a fiery and obstinate young knight, who is really a woman in disguise.
